Hi, friends of WF!
Thanks to all of you that have been sharing deal flow with us. We’re starting a new experiment: Weekend Fund Deal Partners.
Our goal: To meet more promising companies and reward you with carry for making introductions that lead to an investment.
How it works:
Lastly, below is an FAQ with more details.
How do I participate?
We've been quietly sharing carry via our Deal Partner program with Weekend Fund founders, LPs, and friendly co-investors/scouts. Participating is as simple as sending us opportunities via email (ryan@weekend.fund and vedika@weekend.fund).
How much carry can I earn?
We will share 10% of the carry we earn on a particular deal for identifying and helping us make an investment. In the event that we do a large SPV, your carry is capped on the first $1M invested in that deal, in part because SPVs take a lot more work for us to fill and execute.
Your payout is dependent on the company’s performance. If it goes to zero, you (and we) won’t earn anything on the deal.
Hypothetical example:
Deal Partner earns 10% of $5M, equating to $500K.
How is carry paid out?
Using AngelList, we’ll distribute a deal partner agreement when we execute the investment. You simply need to sign for it.
One important consideration: As with all funds, LPs get paid their principal before carry is shared with us or anyone else. We need to clear this hurdle and return ~$21M (the size of WF 3) first.
What if I refer a company that you’re already speaking to?
The goal of this experiment is to get intros to new promising companies. Unfortunately we won’t be sharing carry if we’re already connected to the founder about their raise.
What deals should I send to you?
We invest broadly across consumer and B2B, primarily in early-stage startups. Occasionally we invest in later stage deals through an SPV.
We invest broadly but here are a few areas we’re particularly excited about.
Are there any restrictions I should be aware of?
Unfortunately for regulatory reasons, we’re unable to award carry to residents of Canada. :(
Can I still share deals with other investors?
Of course! We’re not asking for exclusivity. :)
